Ferreira is proud to possess some of the most prestigious vineyards. They are graded A, which is the highest grade in one of the oldest grading systems in the world. The vineyards stretch in long terraces down the valley of the Douro, the “golden river” that wears its name so well.
Ferreira is able to guarantee their unique style by meticulously selecting the grapes themselves and by controlling all of the production stages of their wine.
Renewing with ancestral traditions, Ferreira uses a grape pressing technique for its prestige vintages that is similar to the old method of pressing grapes with feet.
Since Dona Antonia did not like wine that was too strong, she developed a type of wine that was very elegant, full-bodied and harmonious, and that found its balance between the aromas resulting from the grape varieties and those of the fermentation stage. It is this style that continues today and that has made Ferreira’s name.
