When the estate was founded in 1749 by the Comte de Mauny, sugar cane was above all cultivated for sale.
But from the 19th century onwards the La Mauny estate started to gradually turn towards the production of rum. La Mauny underwent considerable development during the 1950s and was launched on the French market in 1977.
